Two back-to-back wins marked Chicago United’s season openers at their first ever matches at American Cricket Conference (ACC) by 102 runs against Patriots and Caso league’s Mid-America T30 Division by 62 runs against Mavericks. At CASO, CU hosted Mavericks at the Grande Park (Plainfield). It was a CASO season opener for both teams. CU was playing their first red ball match in four years, an advantage the opponents could leverage on. To challenge CU, Mavericks added a few veteran player (Aditya Burman and Saquib Chowdary) and other players to their roster – a nice melting pot!CU players at their dug out were excited and chilling with some loud music and laughs. One of Chicago’s best umpire’s Ameya Redkar tossed the coin that fell in favor of CU. Batting first, CU openers (Anirudh J and Venky N) set of to a steady start while demonstrating good batting skills. Venky is CU’s player from their development program and was presented an opportunity to open the batting with experienced Anirudh. Mavericks opened their bowling with medium pacers Aditya A and Raja K. Both the bowler did fairly well in their opening spells. At 57/1 in the 10th over, Najam joint the well settled Anirudh who felt short of his 50. It was a delight to watch Ani’s well-timed batting. Najam stroked the ball very well and built a exceptionally balanced cart wheel graph of 46 runs . While Mavericks picked up wickets at regular intervals, Adnaan Khan with his huge maximums and Shayan’s steady wrist work troubled the bowlers. However, CU’s projected score of 200 runs was altered to 182 runs in 30 overs.Going into bat, Mavricks openers Abhiny B and Arjun K showed aggression against CU’s development bowler Adnaan Khan. Adnaan bowled very well and picked up top order wickets. Mavricks batting was struggling against CU’s bowlers. Aditya Burman (0) and Saquib Chowdary (8) fell short of expectations as the bowlers executed the bowling strategy to point. The experienced Akhil Pathan (4-0-18-2) and Neil Shah (6-0-24-0) kept the batsmen quenching for runs. In the 21st over, Akhil missed an hattrick. This shifted the game towards CU while Mavericks were grounded to a low score of 120 runs in 23 overs. A 62 runs orthodox win for CU. #PlayCricket#ChicagoUnited
