ACC T30 SF : WINDY CITY WINS A THRILLER!

  • October 1, 2020

Chicago United continued to spice up Chicago’s cricket. Windy City played CU at the ACC T30 semi final. CU was put into bat on a beautiful day and did not get off to their usual start. CU lost their 1st wicket with just 17 runs on the board when Anirudh Jonnavitula was caught behind trying to accelerate the scoring rate. Nadeem William used the willow well before falling for 24.Venkatesh Naidu was stable at the other end while CU kept losing regular wickets. Venkatesh Naidu ended up with a well made 66 (72). Hasan Bemat returned from an injury. With some injury related uncertainty and his phenomenal 360 shots, he scored 22 (21). Talah and Qasim bowled well for Windy City to set up with fighting target of 178. Windy City were rocked by the early wicket of Shaheer Hassan (0) who fell to speedster Koti Vanga. However the veterans – Mir Ali, Imran Syed and later on Qasim Khan ensured that the runs were flowing. Sachin Veerasammy and Neil Shah challenged the batsmen with their bowling. While Koti Vanga was hitting the right line length with his dangerous pace, Najmi’s (Najam Iqbal) absence was felt in the spin attack. Windy City chased down the target in 29.4 over (of 30 over limit). Aaron Fernandes bowled exceptional well to pick up 4 wickets! The match was fitting for a Semi Final. This was the first time Chicago United competed in ACC and were top seeded. Kudos to Sami M Khan for his exemplary captaincy. CU had a fantastic ACC 2020 season. Winning and losing is a parcel of any match, a close finish makes a match a thriller! Rest assured, CU will continue to improve players, teams and leagues by bringing out the best from its opponents while playing a role model for many teams across the USA. Well played Windy City. CU wishes Anjuman and Windy City the best for the Finals. A shout out to ACC’s officials and Management for their efforts. #PlayCricket#ChicagoUnited#ChicagoCricket#USAcricket
