Rogers Park derails CU
Chicago United vs Rogers Park
By Shahmeer K
On Saturday June 27th, Chicago United took host Rogers Park CC at James Park in Evanston. It was a good day to play cricket and Rogers Park won the toss and elected to bat first. Rogers Park started well with the bat by scoring at a good rate in the first 10 overs. Yaseen Shaik got the first breakthrough for CU and ending the opening stand. After this point, CU stayed on top of the opposition batsman with some excellent bowling from both ends by Yaseen (3 wickets) and Kashan Khan (2 wickets) and was continued by Sameer (wickets) after Kashan’s spell. CU had some mishaps in the field and dropped a few crucial catches which let the opposition score a total of 176 in the given 40 overs. Overall, the bowling was great but the fielding costed 20-30 extra runs.
Chicago United opened the batting with a bang and scoring 20 in the first two overs before the first wicket fell; the second wicket also fell a little bit after. Shahmeer (36 in 41 balls) and Yaseen (47 in 75 balls) then continued the chase with a solid partnership until a questionable decision had Shahmeer LBW. Chicago United kept losing wickets on a regular basis and eventually fell short of the target by 3 runs. Chicago United was batting with 9 wickets in hand as a player had to leave early due to a family situation. It was a great game but a tough loss to swallow for CU. CU hopes to bounce back stronger in the next match against Purdue University.
For his good bowling spell of 3 wickets and a hard fought 47.runs with the bat, Yaseen was awarded CU’s MoM
