By Goutham Sudhin
Flames took on Chicago United (CU) at Grande Park – Plainfield, Illinois. This was the first time CU was playing on this wicket. Winning the toss, CU skipper Sami decided to bat on what was considered to be a hot day for cricket with temperatures expected to rise thru 100F.
Chicago United lost their ace opener Yaseen Sheik in the very first over leaving some concerns in the dugout. Safder Syed was joined by Abdul Khader, another left handed batsman on the team. Both played cautiously and with responsibility by rotating strike with odd boundaries. CU’s 100 was brought up in the 23rd over and in the process of raising the run rate safder (47) lost his wicket. Abdul Khader was joined by Sami (the skipper) and the score ramped up to 183 in no time. Few huge hits from Sikander Gill (29) and Sami’s 35 runs, set a target of 238. Abdul Khader’s 71 runs laid the platform for this target. Bobby and Valka of Flames initially bowled well and limited runs to add to the challenge.
CU started their bowling with the speedster Ahmed Askari who picked up a wicket in the very first over. Flames built a nice partnership at around 6 runs per over and were beginning to settle well until the skipper, Sami brought himself into the attacked and picked a 5 for 49 runs along with some few key wickets along with assist from Abdul Khader ( 3 wickets). Kalyan(26)and Bobby(37) contributed well with the bat for the Flames. However, Flames were 112 runs short of the target
